The Cancer Centre Pharmacy is the JCC's retail arm of the pharmacy department. Here we are able to fill prescriptions for patients in the same manner as your local pharmacy. The pharmacy maintains a focus on chemotherapy and supportive medications, so we are unable to stock all medications. However, we do specialize in dispensing medications related to your care here at the JCC, which are usually unavailable at your local community pharmacy. As a result, patients are encouraged to have their prescriptions filled at our pharmacy to avoid any disruptions in their course of treatment.
Using a pharmaceutical care approach, the retail pharmacist reviews and assesses out-patient prescriptions and works with the patient and healthcare team to optimize medication use and to avoid medication-related problems and drug interactions. The retail pharmacist also provides drug information to healthcare workers as well as patients and their families.
The retail pharmacy team works together to ensure that patients' prescriptions are filled accurately and in a timely manner. They navigate billing avenues, such as government coverage, third party plans and funding programs on the patient's behalf, while working closely with the Drug Access Facilitators to provide patients with funded, special access or compassionate medication whenever possible.
The Cancer Centre Pharmacy is located on the second floor of the JCC, across from the Supportive Care reception. The pharmacy is open Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., except on holidays. We can be reached at (905)575-6320. Patients are reminded to call the pharmacy 1-2 days before refills are required in order to minimize your wait time.
