Our Services

Library staff in the Patient & Family Resource Centre can work with you, one-on-one, to determine the best resources for your needs.  We are dedicated to providing confidential and compassionate assistance, and we understand that searching for information during the cancer journey can often be overwhelming and extremely difficult.  Our goal is to make the search for information as easy and as stress-free as possible for all our patients, family members and friends. 

Some of our services include:

One-on-one assistance

• Not quite sure what you're looking for?  Or, maybe you know what you need, but are unsure how to begin your search?  Library staff can spend time with you to make sure you get the information you need, in the appropriate format.  Drop in any time for personal consultation and assistance.

Online searching                            

• Overwhelmed by the amount of information on the web?  Not sure if what you're finding is reliable?  Let us guide you to relevant, current and credible websites and other online resources.

Information made to order

• If you'd like some materials or information but don't have time to wait, let us know!  Just give us the details of what you need and we can put together a package of resources, links, articles, etc. to have ready for you the next time you're in.  Or, for the electronically-savvy among you, we can email it straight to you, so the information is at your fingertips sooner!

A lending library of books... and more!

• Browse our shelves for books, videos, DVDs and CDs, or let us show you how to check the catalogue to search for a specific title or author.  And feel free to ask us for advice.  We're always happy to recommend a good resource.

Other features...                               

• A comfortable seating area - perfect for enjoying the refreshments generously provided by The Canadian Cancer Society.  Also a great place to sit and read, rest or reflect. 
• A direct telephone line to the Cancer Information Service (another service of the Cancer Society) is available for your convenience.  Find out more about the Cancer Information Service here.
• Volunteers from Wellwood Resource Centre visit the resource centre each day to provide support and information about resources in the community.  Learn more about Wellwood here.
• Three computers for accessing websites, articles and other resources. 
• Finally, we have a video viewing station in the Resource Centre.  If you have some time and would like to watch a video this is the place to be!
