Chemotherapy Class

Before you begin treatment, you will be scheduled to attend a New Patient Chemotherapy Class.  In this session you will learn about what to expect during chemotherapy, how to manage possible side effects, how to look after yourself during chemotherapy and have the opportunity to ask questions about chemotherapy. You will also be given a "Learning about chemotherapy for patients and families" book to take home with you. (link book?) Please bring one family member or friend with you to the New Patient Chemotherapy Class.  

Wellness Programs:

Out of the Shadows

Out of the Shadows is a wellness program for women completing treatment for early stage breast cancer.  It is an educational lecture and discussion series which features different topics on nutrition, reconditioning, medical follow-up, menopause and adapting to change after cancer. The Out of the Shadows sessions are offered at 6:30 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. in the lobby of the second floor of the Cancer Centre.  For more information or to register please call Supportive Care at extension 64636.

Healthy Eating Class

Puzzled about what to eat? Our healthy eating class is for people who have completed cancer treatment and would like to know more about healthy eating. The sessions are one hour and a half in length.  For more information or to register, please call Supportive Care at extension 64636.

Life After Breast Cancer Conference

This biennial one-day event hosted by the Juravinski Cancer Centre is for those touched by breast cancer, survivors and caregivers alike. It will provide you with the opportunity to come together to learn, to talk and to enjoy the fellowship of others who have also been affected by this disease and its treatment.

Our focus for the conference remains unchanged - how to live well with a diagnosis of breast cancer. Our planning committee manages to line up key speakers and topics that we hope you will find both useful and entertaining!

Lung Cancer Information Fair

This is a one-day biennial event hosted by the Juravinski Cancer Centre Lung Disease Site Team for those with lung cancer, family members, and healthcare providers. Exhibits include medical and treatment experts, symptom management professionals, supportive programs, palliative care organizations, rehabilitation services and much more. Short presentations are offered throughout the day.

Wellwood Resource Centre

Wellwood is a community-based, non-profit organization in Hamilton, Ontario. It provides information, supportive care programs and peer support to people who have received a diagnosis of cancer, their families and caregivers, and healthcare providers.
