Aboriginal Patient Navigator

The Aboriginal Patient Navigator helps Aboriginal patients and their families by:

  • Providing support at clinic visits
  • Helping patients and families communicate with doctors and nurses
  • Arranging language and cultural translation services
  • Helping patients and families find services
  • Helping connect with traditional Aboriginal healers

Our Aboriginal Patient Navigator program is available to patients and their families who self-identify as having Aboriginal ancestry or as being part of an Aboriginal family.  In addition, this program is also available to anyone who has any Aboriginal cultural needs.

Our Aboriginal Patient Navigator is available Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.  For a referral or for more information on this service, please call Supportive Care at extension 64315.

To learn more about this program please watch "Aboriginal Support for Those Living with Cancer" - a video which tells a poignant story about 'Grace,' an Aboriginal woman and her struggles between Aboriginal Traditional healing and Western medicine in the treatment of cancer.

The video is an initiative to connect with and support our Aboriginal patients and families touched by cancer. It also highlights the importance of understanding and respecting social and cultural differences of the people we care for.
