What is a pathfinder?

A pathfinder is a guide to information sources on a specific topic.

What is included in a Pathfinder?

Our pathfinders include resources that can be found in the JCC Patient & Family Resource Centre, and on the internet. 

Why should I use a pathfinder to find information?  Why not just go right to a search engine?

Pathfinders direct you to specific and reliable sources of information on a topic.  The books, videos, websites and other sources that are included on the pathfinders have been evaluated and selected by librarians and members of the JCC healthcare teams, so you can be confident that the information will be current, reliable and credible.

If I have a pathfinder, I should be able to find all the information I need, right?

Pathfinders should not be used to replace communication with your healthcare team.  They are designed to supplement and support the information given to you by your physician, nurse, therapist, etc.  We urge you to continue to speak with your healthcare team with any questions or concerns you may have about your health.

Where can I find pathfinders?

Pathfinders are available in print form at the Patient & Family Resource Centre.  Pathfinders can also be downloaded directly from this website.

Who can use pathfinders?

We have made pathfinders available on our website for your information.  You may download them as needed, but please understand that the items in our collection are available to be borrowed only by JCC patients and family members.  At the present time we do not have the ability to lend items to the general public.
